Pavilion, Cairns Showgrounds
DISCO RODEO DISCO
Under the shimmering glow of the disco ball, the Pavilion at Cairns Showgrounds was utterly unrecognisable. Once an old cow shed, the venue was magically transformed into a Texas dance hall with a tantalising disco twist—a sexy saloon where everything from the décor to the energy oozed cheeky, flashy cool.
As guests stepped into this camp and kitsch wonderland, they were greeted by rhinestone cowgirls who set the tone. A photo studio offered the perfect backdrop for striking a pose, whether channeling your inner cowboy or disco diva. The styling was nothing short of spectacular, with Mylar, silver balls, and a stage set framed by cordyline. The disco desert-inspired set took centre stage, featuring giant metallic and mirrored balls alongside cacti and desert plants, all beneath a breathtaking landscape of LED screens flashing high-impact, collaged iconography.
Tables were set under a canopy of festoon lighting, with clusters of silver disco balls, neon cactus lights, and real cacti perched on navy and deep magenta satin tablecloths. Pops of magenta pink from the napkins and the golden glow of metallic votives reflected against the disco balls, casting light across the room in a dazzling display.
But the night was more than just a visual spectacle. The air was filled with the mouthwatering aroma of a succulent smokehouse menu, designed to tickle tastebuds and keep the energy high throughout the evening. As guests boot-scooted across the dance floor, they were serenaded by the powerful vocals of Maya Weiss, accompanied by powerhouse MC Claire Hoper and electrifying performers Mumma Megs and Anna Lumb.
This was a night where fun, fantasy, and flair collided, creating a celebration as unforgettable as it was uniquely cool. The call of the disco ball had been answered, and it was one heck of a party!
